Whether you're a complete beginner, or an intermediate player, Bass by Ear is here to help you convert what you are hearing with your ears or in your head into notes and grooves on the bass fretboard. With a combination of ear training, a bit of practical (useful) theory that you'll use in real life situations, new and improved techniques, and how to read and use Tabs effectively without relying on them to actually play, our unique 1-on-1 private Bass by Ear lessons will get you quickly playing bass efficiently and reliably. You'll actually understand why you're playing the notes you're choosing, learning what is likely to come next in a song, playing your favourite songs and getting creative with writing your own basslines.

During our first lesson we'll do a quick assessment of where your ears and bass playing are at, and formulate a plan on how best to achieve YOUR goals.

There isn't much I haven't encountered in over 45 years of playing bass professionlly, so while I'll always be learning, I can share specific knowledge and shortcuts that I have learned the hard way to enable you to get what you want out of playing bass without making costly mistakes.

This isn't a rigid curriculum driven course, so weekly lessons are tailored for you, although we do have suggested guidelines and supporting materials that we'll provide you. Then we'll get straight into feeling the groove, hearing the basslines, understanding the fretboard and playing bass!
